Kate Lewis
UBC Sociology is excited to welcome Kate Lewis to the department!
After over a decade of experience at UBC, where she’s worked in a variety of roles from Enrolment Services, the Faculty of Medicine, and most recently the Department of Linguistics, Kate Lewis takes over as our new Administrator.

What is your favourite book?
The Moor’s Last Sigh, a novel by Salman Rushdie.

Do you have any pets?
I have a dog named Cookie! She is a rescue from Texas that moved to Vancouver in October 2022. She has an underbite, loves other dogs and loves people, but hates the rain and isn’t fond of skateboards.
What is a secret talent you are really proud of?
I bake a mean chocolate babka.
What inspires you in your work?
My experience as an undergrad inspires my work: I felt I ran into so many bureaucratic barriers and felt so alone and frustrated when dealing with the university, that I’ve always strived to be and do support the opposite – to be helpful, be kind, have empathy, be as transparent as possible, and even if I can’t help directly I can try and give some direction toward those who can.
