Funding

UBC Sociology works hard to ensure that incoming graduate students have the financial support they require to excel at their studies and to complete their graduate programs in a timely manner.

Funding for graduate study in Sociology at UBC usually comprises a combination of monies from graduate scholarships, teaching assistantships and research assistantships.

All full-time students are eligible for scholarships in the MA and PhD programs at UBC Sociology. All international PhD students are additionally automatically granted the International Tuition Award, and most students take the opportunity to work with our faculty as research assistants.

Many current and incoming graduate students receive additional funding from agencies such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and/or the UBC Affiliated Fellowship competitions.
