The UBC Sociology Department has just received the painting “Fire and Fantasy” by Daphne Naegele. It is being donated by Jennifer Wade and her family in memory of Daphne Naegele, who was passionate about the arts. Daphne’s husband, Kaspar Naegele, joined the (then named) Department of Anthropology and Sociology at UBC in 1954. Here he rose to the rank of Professor by 1963 and became a member of Senate. In 1964 Kaspar became UBC’s first Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The artwork will be installed in the building later in the summer.
