We are pleased to announce that Dr. Katherine Lyon has been awarded a 2020/2021 Killam Teaching Prize, in recognition for her excellence and innovation in teaching practice, deep commitment to community engagement and student success and well-being, and active engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning, at UBC and internationally.
In her years teaching sociology at UBC, Dr. Lyon accomplishments include her many innovations addressing the needs of international students in the classroom, the adoption of new technologies and media as teaching and learning resources, and the integration of community-engaged learning into the university curriculum. She has also taken on a leadership role during the current pandemic, organizing and leading a sociology course on COVID-19 and facilitating and supporting the transition to online teaching for our department’s faculty.
