The Canada Research Chairs Program is a federally endowed professorship, and among the highest research designations in the country. The $295 million-a-year program is part of a national strategy to make Canada one of the world’s top countries in research excellence. Chairholders improve our depth of knowledge and quality of life, strengthen Canada’s international competitiveness, position the country as a world-class research centre, and help train the next generation of scholars. Fifteen UBC researchers were appointed as new and renewed Canada Research Chairs in the most recent competition announced on June 15, 2021.
