UBC Sociology is excited to announce that Prof. Michela Musto has been named a 2021 National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow.
The NAEd/Spencer Dissertation and Postdoctoral Fellowships and Research Development Awards provide funding and professional development to early-career researchers whose projects address critical issues in the history, theory, or practice of formal or informal education at the national and international levels. Dr. Musto’s award, the NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship, provides funding to early-career scholars to allow them to focus on their research and attend professional development retreats.
Dr. Musto’s research examines the contexts in which education reproduces inequality – including academically tracked classrooms, youth sports and other extracurricular activities, and collegiate athletics. Her in-progress book manuscript, tentatively titled Boys Will Be Boys, examines the social construction of exceptionalism in early adolescence.
Congratulations to Dr. Musto on her new fellowship opportunity!
