The department extends its warm congratulations to Caitling Chong over this achievement!
The fund awards up to $1,500 to fill small resource gaps and empower community partners to build reciprocal relationships with UBC students, faculty, and staff.
Caitlin is in her second year of the Master’s program. She has been documenting how and why diasporic Chinese organizers and activists create social change in Vancouver. This research project is the basis of her Master’s thesis and will be translated into an online community resource. The resource, made possible by UBC’s PRE fund, will be built in partnership with Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice, a grassroots organization based in Vancouver’s Chinatown which supports youth and low-income immigrant seniors in Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside. The resource will serve as a site where diasporic Chinese communities can seek information and guidance about participating in social movements.
