Kairos Blanket Exercise

DATE
Friday March 3, 2023
TIME
10:00 AM - 12:30 PM

The Indigeneity, Equity and Diversity (IED) committee has organized the Kairos Blanket Exercise for the Sociology department at UBC to experience Indigenous learning methodologies. Our aim is to decolonize our Western perspective comprehension of history through building our understanding of the shared history between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, on the land that is now known as Canada.

This Kairos Blanket Exercise will be facilitated by Moon Tide Reconciliation. Moon Tide Reconciliation combines the teachings and traditions of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm Musqueam, Syilx, and Nlaka’pamux nations. Through the Kairos Blanket exercise, cultural workshops, and storytelling, they strive to facilitate reconciliation and promote understanding and respect between cultures. The facilitation is led by Shona Sparrow, who is Syilx & Nlaka’pamux married into Musqueam. She has committed her work to facilitating the Kairos Blanket exercise. She is extensively passionate about preserving Indigenous history and traditions and promoting understanding and respect between cultures.

We welcome you to attend the Kairos Blanket Exercise organized by the IED committee at UBC’s department of Sociology. Attendance will require RSVP. Also, the IED committee asks that all attendees wear a mask and practice social distancing. The event will be also held in a large capacity room. The exercise is being held at the C.K. CHOI lounge, 1855 West Mall, Vancouver, BC from 10 am to 12:30 pm on March 3. All faculty, staff and graduate students are strongly encouraged to attend.
