It has been announced that Professor Anne Martin-Matthews has been appointed as UBC’s new Associate Vice-President (AVP), Health, effective February 15, 2019:
“Anne is currently Acting Vice-President, Knowledge Translation and Ethics at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (on secondment). She is also a professor in UBC’s Department of Sociology with a specialization in aging and life course; health and society; health and social care services; and the intersections of formal and informal care. During her time at UBC, she has held various senior administrative roles in the Faculty of Arts. She is also the recent past Scientific Director, Institute of Ageing, Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
This new AVP, Health, role is a key member of the Vice-President, Health, portfolio senior management team. The AVP, Health, is responsible for providing academic leadership and development, administrative management and delivery related to the portfolio’s strategic initiatives.
The AVP, Health, will work with deans and directors, senates, department heads, and program directors to deliver innovation in interprofessional education; health systems planning; and health research across UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.
The AVP, Health, will also formalize operational connections with health system leaders, including government and community relations, and health authorities, in order to build alignment within the university.
