Prof. Amanda Cheong’s parents attend her presentation on statelessness 10 years after her completion of her undergrad thesis on her own family’s experience with the phenomenon



Prof. Amanda Cheong graduated from UBC Sociology’s Honors program in 2012, writing her undergraduate thesis on her own family’s experience with statelessness.

Her current research focuses on this phenomenon, with her book project “Omitted Lives: Citizenship and the Politics of the Civil Registration Gap” analyzing phenomenons of statelessness, citizenship and migration through fieldwork in Malaysia.

Prof. Cheong’s parents were both in attendance this past week when she presented her upcoming book as part of the UBC Centre for Migration Studies Speaker Series.
