Incoming MA Student, Siqi Xiao, is a finalists in the SSHRC’s 2019 Storytellers challenge

Siqi Xiao, an undergraduate student and incoming masters student in the Sociology program, is among the 25 finalists of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)’s 2019 Storytellers challenge.

The annual contest challenges postsecondary students from across the country to tell the story—in three minutes or 300 words—of how SSHRC-funded research is making a difference in the lives of Canadians.

The Top 25 Storytellers represent 18 postsecondary institutions across Canada. A panel of 25 expert judges from Canada and abroad chose the finalists from the more than 200 entries. Each finalist receives a cash prize of $3,000 and the opportunity to compete in the Storytellers Showcase. This year’s Showcase will be held at the 2019 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, taking place June 1 to 7 at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver. That is when the Final Five winners will be selected.
