Celebrating UBC Sociology students Kayonne Christy’s and Allison Liang’s academic accomplishments



UBC Sociology is thrilled by the accomplishments of Allison Laing and Kayonne Christy, two of our graduate students who were recently awarded scholarships. Congratulations to both of them!

Allison Laing

PhD student Allison Laing received a $7,950 Simons Foundation Doctoral Scholarship. The Simons Foundation Award is given to encourage women entering doctoral programs. The award is given to outstanding women scholars with the potential for significant contribution to society through achievement in their chosen field.

Kayonne Christy

UBC Sociology MA student Kayonne Christy won a Bank of Montreal Graduate Fellowship for $16,000 and a UBC Strengthening Mothers Through Perinatal Research Award for $1,500.

The Strengthening Mothers Through Perinatal Research Award is a $1,500 award, offered annually by Beverley O’Brien for graduate students pursuing research into woman-centred, holistic and physiologic maternity care. Beverley O’Brien is a UBC Nursing alumna, Professor Emerita in the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Nursing, and a Registered Midwife.
