ulty member each month to share their hot take on an aspect of academia wit
h graduate students in our program.
The objective is two fold:
- For grad students to meet and network with
faculty members\, which may be particularly useful if you are looking
for committee members or just want to get to know our professors.

or grad students to learn how to thrive as a sociologist\, beyond cl
assroom-skills.

About Seth Abrutyn
Seth Abrutyn is Associat
e Professor of Sociology at the University of British Columbia. Abrutyn spe
cializes in youth suicide and is also a general sociologist whose research
rests at the intersection of mental health\, emotions\, social psychology\,
and culture\, and which has won several national awards. His overarching g
oals as a social scientist are to merge sociological theory with the public
imagination in hopes of making accessible sociological tools in the servic
e of solving social problems.
